Growing with Philadelphia.

Through the wreckage of a struggling economy a bright spot can be found. Philadelphia. A classic modern American city rich in history and culture. Rapidly emerging into one of the cities at the forefront of the 21st century development period of the United States, Philadelphia is the largest city in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Philadelphia is the fifth most populous city in the United States. The city is home to Rocky the boxing legend as well as the birth place of the Fresh Prince Will Smith and the source of the best cheesesteak in the world. The city also boasts four top tier professional sports franchises all of which are housed in great recently built sporting facilities. Since completing the aforementioned stadiums and arenas as well as adding the illustrious Comcast building to the famous Philadelphia skyline the city has developed a beautiful a full service casino. Know as the Sugar House Casino.

Sugar House Casino

This forty five thousand square foot real estate development will soon house a 750 room hotel. The hotel will have two hotel towers, with a total of 1250 rooms. Hotel construction will be part of phase II & III. Phase I has already been completed with the development of the casino. This process will take a long time so don't bank on booking a room here for a while. It is also estimated that the casino will generate One billion dollars in gaming taxes to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the City of Philadelphia over the first five years of operation. There are two more developments we shall preview. The first being the Sister Cities Park located on Logan's square, across the street from the landmark logan circle.

Sisters Park Square.
The park is located across from the Cathedral of Saint Peter. The park has commemorated Philadelphia’s relationship with cities across the globe, first with Florence, Italy, then Tel Aviv, Israel, and eventually eight more cities. The groundbreaking of Sister Cities Park took place at noon on May the 10th 2011. Sister Cities Park on Logan Square will be transformed into a richly planted, well-illuminated and welcoming civic space for people of all ages as part of the $20.9 million makeover of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway Since 1976. The park is scheduled for completion in 2012.

The second is the  redevelopment of city hall to create a green park around the surrounding parameter.
Projected City Hall
In 2013 Philadelphia is set to unveil a green park going around the perimeter of city hall on the 15th street side. This will involve breaking down what has become a skate park and replacing it with a small garden and water park. The idea behind this is to bring Philadelphia up the 21st century  by going green. Giving city hall a more aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly appearance. The redevelopment does not stop there as Philadelphia is constantly growing and changing, the city of brotherly love is emerging as one of the cities at the forefront in green initiatives and development continuing into a new decade. This is making Philadelphia, a city of great promise and potential, one of the places to be in the years to come.

International heartbreak leads to nervy monday.

Monday July 18th. After witnessing the drama that was the women's world cup and the lack of drama that was the British open patriotic Philadelphia fans had a bad weekend flow into a worse week. Mickelson could not close the gap on Clark as the Irish man insured the British open, trophy stayed in Britain. The US woman could not fend off the Japanese from twice clawing their way back into the cup final and eventually taking the cup in an anticlimactic penalty shootout bringing pride to a nation devastated by an earthquake months earlier.

Halladay struggles to cope with 91 Degree heat wave.
Then monday came along, with the news that football will soon be back, optimism once again took over the city and what better way to start the week then by watching future hall of fame pitcher Roy Halladay putting on a performance against the Chicago cubs. Unfortunately this was not meant to be. Suffering from heat exhaustion Halladay struggled from the mound and had one of his worse outings in a Philadelphia Jersey. "He got real hot and he kind of got dizzy," Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel said of Roy Halladay who took extra recovery time during innings. After the fifth inning Halladay succumbed to the heat and was taken of the field. By this time Halladay, 11-3 coming into the game, had given up three runs on seven hits.

It was Halladay's shortest outing as a Phillie and snapped a string of 63 consecutive road starts in which he pitched six or more innings. That was the longest such streak since Walter Johnson went six or more in 82 straight road starts, from 1911-15. Philadelphia could not find a way back into the game eventually falling 6 - 1 to the Chicago Cubs.

However there is reason for optimism as Halladay said through a club spokesman he would "absolutely" make his next start. Halladays next start will most likely take place this weekend.  As we move forward through the week this provides some comfort to a weekend filled with heartbreak, Halladay will be back to defend the Philadelphia Real Estate that is Citizens bank park against the Padres. There is also more light on the horizon as football fever inches closer and excitement takes over the city of Philadelphia.
